In hopes of having property owners not have unforeseen St Petersburg garbage disposal repairs, and to ensure it remains clean and odor free, we put this infographic together to highlight the items that one ought to not put into a disposer.

Among the leading food waste products to not put in a garbage disposal unit is grease. It seems harmless enough because it is mostly a fluid and soft, but can quickly clog up pipes since it can adhere to the insides of drain pipes. Grease rather should be put in the wastebasket. Other items that must not enter are bones, onion and potato peels, celery, shells from shell fish, large quantities of coffee grounds, and pastas (which can also make a sticky mess in ones drain pipes).

In regards to appropriately running the disposal unit, ensure that just cold water is used and have the water running on high before turning on the disposer. Then, in small quantities put food waste into it. As soon as all the waste is chopped up, run the disposal for 30 to 60 seconds longer. And of course, keep the water running till after the disposal is turned off.

To keep the disposal blades clean and without debris, slice up a few ice cubes to clean it. Likewise, slice lemon slices or other citrus peels to assist in keeping smells away.
